Summary: The Summer Camp Aquatics Director is responsible for all operations and safety for Kamp Kiwanis. Supervising and developing safe aquatic based programs and lifeguard skills. Pre-camp and continued staff training revolving around the health and safety of campers and staff. Including pool & boating waterfront.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Ø Pre-Camp Responsibilities
o Make sure all equipment required by the health department is on deck in proper working condition
o Organize teaching procedures for counselor instructors
o Attendance & participation at Staff Orientation (Conduct a staff training session to review pool rules & emergency procedures)
o Develop a system for assessing and recording the swimming ability of each camper prior to the child participating in swim activities.
o Prepare an order for all supplies
o Develop and teach buddy system
o Skills test all lifeguards within one week of the first day of camp. New lifeguards must be skill tested before they can guard camp.
o Oversee the implementation of the written safety plan’s swimming procedures
o Supervise all staff and campers participating in swimming activities
o Contribute to weekly staff meetings
o Responsible for the safety of camper groups on a daily basis at the pool and during camp-wide field trips and special events
o Report emergencies, accidents and incidents directly to the Camp Director.
o Establish a positive rapport with camper groups and fellow staff members
o Ensure proper implementation of buddy system by lifeguard and camp staff.
o Respond to waterfront emergencies
o If certified as a lifeguard and WSI, may serve as lifeguard or may assess campers’ swimming ability
Ø Administrative Duties
o Understand and accept the Camp’s philosophy and objectives and work towards its fulfillment
o Participation at Leadership Meetings & staff meetings
o Submit mid & end-of-season staff evaluations
o Log staff absences
o Make sure that walkie-talkies are in perfect working condition on a daily basis
o Completion of written materials as requested, such as:
§ Testing and logging of chemicals on a daily basis
§ Testing and logging swim levels of all campers
§ Tracking and writing up weekly camper report cards
§ Submit routine repairs in writing to the Camp Ranger
§ Inventory of supplies & equipment
§ Write a final evaluation of the Swim program to include rules, procedures, suggestions, etc.
§ Daily Quick Check assignments and completion
o Implement boating Safety and basic instruction
o Assist with the development & implementation of special events
o Develop & implement weekly plans for assigned electives
o In addition to the swim level report cards, develop goals to recognize camper skills and accomplishments
