Job Description
Night Shift Nurse

The camp night shift nurse is an administrative position that is responsible for the health and well-being of students and staff. You are allowed to sleep while on shift as long as you have a radio on a next to you and are ready to respond to any calls that may come in. Our wellness center has a nurse on duty room with a bed.

Reports to: Head Nurse and Outdoor education Director

Pay: $22 an hour – 4, 12 hour shifts. Guaranteed 16hrs of over time weekly.

Shift: 7pm-8am Monday- Friday


§ One season commitment required.

§ California-RN or LVN license.

§ Experience in pediatric, school, camp, outpatient or emergency care is preferred.

§ Positive role model for instructors. Lead by example.

§ Ability to effectively train instructors during orientation on infirmary protocol.

§ Strong interpersonal communication skills.

§ Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate (verbally and written) concerns, feedback and information to staff, administration and teachers.

§ Must be a positive, assertive leader with strong supervisory and management skills.

§ Understand and apply pertinent personnel policies, laws, rules and regulations.

§ Must have demonstrated good judgment and decision-making ability.

§ Must be approachable and friendly.

§ Must have initiative and be able to work with minimal supervision.

§ Must be 100% organized.

§ Must be flexible and diverse in philosophies to work with various types of school groups.

Job Requirements

 Relay pertinent school information to staff in a clear and concise manner.
 Carry out daily activities and operations of Pali Institute.
 Assist in color codes called on the radio.
 Other duties as assigned.


 Review camper health histories with emphasis on current illnesses, allergies and physical limitations.
 Complete fast, accurate assessments of health complaints.
 Communicate health needs of students to instructors and administration, as needed.
 Contact parents of students that require in-depth care, complicated meds or are unique situations.
 Administration of prescription and over-the-counter medication, keeping in mind the five rights
 Provide first aid for minor injuries and illnesses
 Refer more serious issues to the appropriate medical personnel.
 Maintain accurate health logs and incident report logs.
 Communicate with parents in regards to on-site health concerns.
 Maintain a clean, healthy and warm environment in the infirmary.
 Stay up to date on staff personnel medical information and history. Relay any pertinent information that effects job performance to the Director immediately.
 Will work with one to two full-time nurses to cover infirmary 24 hours/day.
