Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

I. Supervised by Doctor and Assistant Director

II. Employment Requirements

a. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

b. Licensed to practice professional nursing

c. Pediatric, public health or emergency room nursing experience helpful

 

III. Responsibilities and Expectations

a. Supervises sick call for campers and staff during established hours

b. Asses camper/ staff health status by reviewing data from health forms and other supplied documents.

c. Analyzes and interprets collected data to establish appropriate schedules and routines

d. Reports data relevant to the actual and/or potential health problem of a camper or staff to doctor, director and any other appropriate personnel

e. Develops plan of care for camper or staff and monitors response

f. Reports significant data and changes in patient condition to doctor

g. Provides nursing care to camper and staff who are admitted to infirmary

h. Provide health education to camper and staff on an on-going basis as directed:

provide in service training to staff when deemed necessary by director

i. Inventory all camper and staff medications, ensuring proper administration procedures are attached

j. Inventory all medical supplies and order anything required

k. Inventory and pack all supplies that will not expire before next summer

 

IV. Execution of Delegated Medical Acts

a. Administer non-prescription and/or prescription medications to campers and staff as prescribed or as directed by doctor

b. Record administration of medications and care

c. Observe and record camper and staff reaction to medication and treatment

d. Supervision of housed campers and staff as needed

V Establish Strong Lines of Communication

a. Keep doctor, assistant director, division head and counselor informed of camper and/or staff health status

h. Inform assistant director and doctor of parents requiring phone contact due to child being taken out of camp for radiology, laboratory, or emergency room procedures. Give detailed information on results and any follow-up needed.

c. Repeat b if camper stays overnight more than one night in infirmary or requiring prescription medications

d. Communicate closely with other medical personnel to insure continuity of care

e. Maintain daily log of each camper and staff medical visit detailing time, nature of visit and course of action. Data must also be entered on individual camper/staff file forms

f. Process other medical forms, accident reports etc as directed

g. Provide other medical support as detailed by supervisor

VI. Miscellaneous responsibilities

The Infirmary must be staffed 24 hours/day. This time is coordinated between the nurses hired. When not on duty the following should happen:

a. Participate in any and all camp activities with campers and staff

b. Participate in any evening staff entertainment
